Setup a device in WPCO mode

1. Creating and assigning users

Before enrolling a device, you must first create users and assign them to policies [Note: If you don’t need your users to have a first name / last name / email address, or to configure their device themselves by receiving an email invitation, you can use our multiple enrolment method to skip the first step and use a generic QR code].

  • To create users :
    • Create users one by one. If you want users to receive an e-mail with the QR code enabling them to enroll a professional device, you can check the Send e-mail to user box. Otherwise, uncheck the box. In any case, the QR code will be permanently visible in the TinyMDM console.
    • Import a list of users via a csv file. Refer to the tutorial to find out how to structure your file.
  • Once users have been created or imported, you need to assign them to a policy before you can access QR codes and enroll devices.
  • Once users have been assigned to a policy, click on the “ Show QR code ” link for each user. You can resend the QR code at any time by clicking on the icon and then “Resend enrolment IDs”.
  • Check the “WPCO enrolment” box. Please note: once a device has been enrolled in this management mode, it is no longer possible to go back and change management mode without having to reset the device and enroll it again.

2. Enrolling Devices

The second step consists in enrolling the device by flashing the QR code created (it doesn’t matter who does the enrolling, it can be a TinyMDM manager or the end user if he/she has received the enrolment QR code by e-mail). To do this, you need to:

  • Switch on the device (which must be new or reset to factory settings).
  • Tap 6 times in a row on the first screen displayed at start-up (anywhere, but in the same spot each time).
  • Wait a few seconds and scan the QR code when the camera opens automatically.
  • The device will automatically download TinyMDM. Once you’ve accepted the Android and TinyMDM terms of use, your chosen policy configuration will apply immediately.

TinyMDM’s policy configuration is consistent for all types of device (company owned devices that are fully managed, company owned devices enabled for personal use, “personal” devices with work profile, restricted devices in kiosk mode, etc.).

The key principle is that according to Google EMM recommendations, it is the user who must be assigned to a policy.
Once this assignment has been made, the options available for the device depend on the management mode used: some policy options may not be compatible with all management modes. TinyMDM indicates them with specific icons for each mode within the policies themselves.

For example, options available on company-owned devices on which personal use is authorized will be indicated by the icon: ICONE.

Here’s a list of the different functionalities compatible with each management mode.
