Why hide an authorized application 
In some cases, it is necessary to install and authorize an application on a device, while preventing the end user from accessing it directly.
The application remains active but does not appear on the device.
Examples of specific cases
1. Open web applications without displaying Chrome
Web apps (web shortcuts) require Chrome to function properly. However, many organizations wish to restrict Internet access.
In this case, you can:
- Install Chrome on the device
- Hide Chrome from the end user, but allow the application to run in the background
- Use TinyMDM’s filtered web browser to access the Internet
This ensures that the web app works without providing the user with an uncontrolled browser.
2. Open PDFs without displaying Adobe Reader
Similarly, you can install Adobe Acrobat Reader to allow your users to open PDF files from:
- A business application
- A web link
- A file manager
while hiding the Adobe Reader application to prevent the user from opening it directly.
How to hide an authorized application
To hide an authorized application:
- Go to the relevant policy
- Click on the icon
at the top right of the application you want to hide - Click on on Hide app
Hidden applications will be recognizable in the admin console by their symbol.
